A Hales Corners-based developer is moving forward with plans for two apartment developments that will add nearly 300 units Brookfield, which city officials believe will help offset future demand for apartments there.
Wimmer Communities is planning a 99-unit apartment development to be called “The Artisan” on 3.9 acres at the southeast corner of Wisconsin Avenue and Main Street. Plans call for 42 one- bedroom and 57 two-bedroom units.
On the other side of town, Wimmer wants to develop a 99-room extended stay Marriott Residence Inn, to replace a nearby 106-room Residence Inn that was built in 1988, and build four apartment buildings with a total of 196 units.
That project, called “The Linx,” would be next to Brookfield Hills Golf Course on 12.8 acres, at 1411 Pinhurst Court, according to a city report.
Wimmer Communities did not return phone calls seeking comment.
A report presented by a consultant to the city’s plan commission in January showed the total demand for apartment housing in Brookfield was 500 to 700 units over the next five years. Estimated future supply is 400 units.
The proposals received plan commission approval this week, but still requires approval from the full council.
“The proposals are consistent with our community plan,” said Dan Ertl, director of community development.
