City to purchase land for Terry Porter’s Bronzeville development

Organizations:

The City of Milwaukee’s Redevelopment Authority plans to purchase two vacant properties from Milwaukee County to assist a mixed-use development planned by former Milwaukee Bucks coach Terry Porter in the Bronzeville district.

Porter plans to build a sports, entertainment and condominium development at the intersection of North Seventh Street and East North Avenue, at the gateway to the Bronzeville district.

The city’s Redevelopment Authority plans to purchase an 8,422-square-foot lot at 2225 N. 7th St. and an 1,800-square-foot lot northwest of North Seventh Street and North Avenue for the project. The county board’s Economic and Community Development Committee recently voted unanimously to recommend approval for the $12,100 land sale. The full county board will consider the sale next week.

"We’ve been in the process of assembling land for this development," said Department of City Development spokeswoman Andrea Rowe Richards. "We anticipate a fall kick-off of the project."
