“Leadership for a Fractured World”
As challenges of all scopes continue to create a more divided world, a new kind of leadership is needed to overcome the rifts, according to Dean Williams, a faculty member at Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government and the Center for Public Leadership.
Williams elaborates on this need in his new book, “Leadership for a Fractured World: How to Cross Boundaries, Build Bridges, and Lead Change.”
Rather than defining leadership in terms of the “big man” or the “tribal boss,” the world must clearly distinguish real leadership from formal authority, Williams states.
The world also must breed what Williams describes as “global change agents.”
“Leaders today must be agents of change who are willing and able to cross boundaries, connect groups, and orchestrate multidimensional problem solving and change,” he writes. “Without that kind of leadership, the fractures that separate us will only get worse.”
