Kohl extends Boys & Girls Clubs summer programs with $500,000 gift

Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee will extend its summer programming for thousands of area youth after receiving a $500,000 donation from former Sen. Herb Kohl.

The donation will allow the nonprofit organization to keep 36 of its clubs operating through August, according to Vincent Lyles, president and chief executive officer.

State seeks court ruling for food stamp drug tests

State officials are pushing for a quick federal court ruling that will allow Wisconsin to drug test single, able-bodied adults who get food stamps. The plea to the courts came shortly after Gov. Scott Walker signed the 2015-’17 state budget bill that included the drug-testing idea.

Walker is running for president and often mentions his drug testing provisions in stops across America. Those who test positive would need to get help, or they eventually would lose food stamp eligibility.

Johnson Controls to spin off Automotive Experience division

Glendale-based Johnson Controls Inc. recently announced it plans to spin off its Automotive Experience business to create a separate company.

The tax-free split would form a new publicly traded company, and is expected to be finished in about a year. Johnson Controls did not say where the new company will be based.
