Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett on Monday unveiled a workforce development program for the 32-story Northwestern Mutual Tower and Commons project at the company’s corporate headquarters campus in downtown Milwaukee.

Lakeland College, located in rural Sheboygan County, will move its Milwaukee Center from West Allis to the Honey Creek Corporate Center at 9000 W. Chester St. in the City of Milwaukee this fall.

Corner Bakery Cafe, a chain of fast-casual restaurants with more than 160 locations in the U.S., will open its first Wisconsin location in the Mayfair Collection development in Wauwatosa.

Charter Wire, a division of Mequon-based Charter Manufacturing Co. Inc., is doing site work to begin preparations for the $20 million, 69,000-square-foot addition that it will build at its 160,000-square-foot plant in the Menomonee Valley in Milwaukee.

Gardner Denver Inc., a global manufacturer of industrial compressors, blowers, pumps, loading arms and fuel systems, is in the process of moving its corporate headquarters from Wayne, Pa. (a suburb of Philadelphia) to Milwaukee.

The 162-room hotel at 4700 N. Port Washington Road in Glendale, formerly known as the Hilton Milwaukee River hotel, was recently sold by Green Lake-based MRI Partners to CMH Milwaukee River LLC for $6.7 million, according to state records.

A new marketing program and a streamlined development approval process for the long vacant Park East corridor was unveiled Tuesday by a collaboration of city, county and state officials and the Commercial Assocation of Realtors Wisconsin.

The Milwaukee County Research Park, located between U.S. Highway 45, Wisconsin Avenue, Highway 100 and Watertown Plank Road in Wauwatosa, has an office space vacancy rate of only 1.6 percent, according to a recent report from Guy Mascari, director of development for the research park.

An affiliate of Lincolnshire, Ill.-based Venture One Real Estate recently purchased a 17.8-acre site at 111 W. Oakview Parkway in Oak Creek for $1.55 million from Milwaukee-based Wispark LLC, the real estate development division of Wisconsin Energy Corp.

Jack Safro Toyota, located at 20445 W. Capitol Dr, Brookfield, plans to demolish the existing dealership buildings and build a new 77,500-square-foot dealership in its place.
