Cudahy-based Roadrunner Transportation Systems Inc. reported third quarter net income of $14.4 million, or 37 cents per share, up from $13.2 million, or35 cents per share, in the third quarter of 2013.

Modine earnings down on restructuring costs, mixed sales results

Racine-based Modine Manufacturing Co. reported fiscal 2015 second quarter net earnings of $2 million, or 4 cents per share, down from 5 million, or 10 cents per share, in the second quarter of 2014.

Johnson Controls fourth quarter, annual earnings up

Glendale-based Johnson Controls Inc. reported fourth quarter fiscal 2014 net income of $346 million, or 46 cents per share, up from $139 million, or 15 cents per share, in the fourth quarter of 2013.

Best Practices: Mining data to improve downtime

Data collection and analysis can be used in a variety of ways, but for this column I would like to focus on maintenance. Though maintenance may not seem as exciting as all the other production improvement possibilities, I find maintenance to be an often overlooked aspect of manufacturing which can lead to costly, unscheduled downtime and quickly swamp any incremental gains in production improvements.
