Back-to-school sales propel retailers

A surge of back-to-school sales helped most U.S. retailers ring their cash registers in August, according to the latest monthly totals.

Journal Broadcast Group, a subsidiary of Milwaukee news company Journal Communications Inc., has announced it will acquire WTVF NewsChannel 5 Network in Nashville, Tenn.

National home prices surge again

U.S. home prices rose for a second month in June, according to the S&P/Case-Shiller Index, which showed the strongest back-to-back monthly advance in the more than decade-long history of the price gauge.
