Medical College, Children’s Hospital, BloodCenter receive $50,000 grant
A collaborative team of researchers from the Medical College of Wisconsin, the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin Research Institute, and BloodCenter of Wisconsin has received a one-year, $50,000 grant from the Clinical and Translational Science Institute of Southeast Wisconsin to study genomic factors that impact necrotizing enterocolitis, a severe form of bowel disease that develops in 5 to 10 percent of premature infants and has a mortality rate of 25 to 40 percent.

USDA grant announced at Franklin Hunger Task Force Farm
The U.S. Department of Agriculture plans to award up to $200 million in competitive grants that will fund new employment and training programs intended to help low-income individuals and families find jobs and increase their earnings. More and more employers are choosing to conduct background checks on potential hires, including checks for criminal and credit history. There are a number of legitimate reasons for doing so, including compliance regulations in certain industries, concern about liability for negligent hiring, and simply a desire to ensure that employers are selecting the right person for the job. Employers must be mindful, however, that administrative agencies at both the state and federal levels are scrutinizing these practices like never before, and that many states (like Wisconsin) have laws on the books that regulate how employers are permitted to use background check information.
City Year expands Milwaukee presence
