Three companies serve as arms to Briohn Building Corp. and come together to ensure successful projects from concept, design, construction and occupancy to continued customer support.
Briohn founder Brian Byrne said he created the arms to make his business a one-stop shop.
Whereas most design-build work is done by teams of architectural and contract firms that work together, Briohn Design Group, one arm of the corporation, has seven architects to satisfy that component, Byrne said.
“We’re one company, so our turnaround times are quicker. We tend to be able to critique our own work as it’s happening. You don’t need to wait until somebody gives a presentation to you,” Byrne said.
Briohn Property Management leases to 65 tenants, which contributes to Briohn’s $55 million revenues last year, up from $33 million in 2004.
“We’re both architecturally- and engineering-oriented, which places a better value in the cost per square foot of construction,” Byrne said. “We can analyze the structure, make sure it fits well with the architect and have a more economical solution as a result.”
The way the company has integrated the multiple components of its business provides faster and better solutions for all parties involved, Bryne said. Because Briohn works with local structural engineers, better communication takes place up front.
“If we control that, we can control small details that are generally cost prohibitive instead of relying on someone else’s details that may be untested,” Byrne said. “We wear a lot of hats that come together in the finished product. Our project managers can walk a few feet to our architectural staff for clarification. It’s a system that’s working on making a better end-result for the customer.”
Meanwhile, Bryne said the company’s employees are committed to community service and involvement.
“First of all, you have to give something back,” Byrne said. “In the long run, it really does make a difference.”
