Waukesha County Chamber of Commerce
The Waukesha County Chamber of Commerce launched Waukesha Future for Young Professionals. The group’s mission is to create a platform that attracts young professionals to Waukesha County. Over the next year, Waukesha Future will expand to involve a wide variety of community members by providing activities, events and informative opportunities that highlight the county’s attributes.
International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans
The International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans, Brookfield, recently published Employee Benefits Issues-The Multiemployer Perspective, Volume 47. The book provides practical answers to the challenges of administering, communicating and investing for multiemployer benefit plans and those in the corporate and public sectors. Topics covered in the reference book include: fiduciary responsibility, health care, pension plans, investment issues, public employee issues and Canadian issues.
MC2
Prescription Wireless, a division of MC2, Milwaukee, partnered with Beaver Dam Community Hospital to implement an employee cellular discount program in the hospital. Prescription Wireless serves the mobile communications needs of individuals in the health care industry.
Wisconsin Center for Missing Children & Adults
The Wisconsin Center for Missing Children & Adults (WCMC), a division of Operation L.A.P. Foundation Inc. (OLAPF), Milwaukee, launched the Safe Kids Identification Program (SKIP). SKIP is a computerized identification program that focuses on bringing missing children home safely via the Amber Alert system. The SKIP home computer program captures the child’s photographs and vital statistics such as height, weight, eye color, hair color, birthmarks, scars and medical issues. In the event of an emergency, the SKIP program can be used to immediately create and print a missing child poster. Included in the SKIP child identification kit is a tooth print dental wafer. The wafer is used to record the size and shape of teeth, the position of the teeth in the jaw and the relationships of the jaws to each other. The wafer also captures the child’s DNA and scent for police tracking dogs.
Medical Associates Health Centers
Medical Associates Health Centers, Menomonee Falls, implemented a policy that bans smoking inside or outside the grounds and within vehicles at all sites owned by Medical Associates. Medical Associates has locations in Menomonee Falls, Waukesha, Sussex, Germantown, Hartford, Pewaukee, West Bend and Wauwatosa. Smoking cessation classes and medical services have been offered at reduced fees to all employees and extensive education and support programs have been made available. Medical Associates says the policy was created in an attempt to ensure the healthiest environment possible for all patients, visitors and employees.
Marquette University
James Buchanan, a Wehr Distinguished Professor of Biological Sciences at Marquette University, Milwaukee, was awarded the Lawrence G. Haggerty Faculty Award for Excellence in Research. Buchanan’s research in neurophysiology, funded by more than $1.8 million in grants, has led to more than 40 publications. Buchanan holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from Colorado College and a doctoral degree in neural science from Washington University. He joined Marquette University in 1989 and has received grants from the National Institutes of Health each year since to continue his work. Jane Dorweiler, assistant professor of biological sciences; Kristin Haglund, assistant professor of nursing; Debra Oswald, assistant professor of psychology and Daniel Sem, assistant professor of chemistry, received Way-Klinger Young Scholars Awards. Each winner will receive a one-semester sabbatical. The awards are part of the Way Klingler Faculty Development Program.
Quarles & Brady LLP
The United States Law Firm Group, a collaboration of Quarles & Brady LLP, Milwaukee, and 18 other U.S. law firms, formed a strategic partnership with ADVOC networks of international law firms. The partnership will allow Quarles & Brady clients and attorneys access to experienced legal counsel in 45 countries around the world. ADVOC is the international network of independent law firms and was founded in 1990 by a group of European law firms that sought to provide their clients with quality legal services outside of their own countries. The firms founded the network on a core commitment to the highest level of client service. Today, ADVOC consists of three regional networks, ADVOC Europe, ADVOC Asia and ADVOC Latin America that together comprise 90 firms operating in all corners of the globe.
Medical College of Wisconsin
The Medical College of Wisconsin, Wauwatosa, received a $196,245 grant from the U.S. Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to develop a health and safety course tailored to leaders in community-based and faith-based organizations. The train-the-trainer course will focus on hazards related to transportation, violence, communicable respiratory diseases, slips, falls, lifting, pushing or pulling. Targeted settings include homeless shelters, shelters for abused women and children, halfway houses, rescue missions, neighborhood outreach centers, meal programs, and community-based nursing and long-term care programs. Dr. Leslie Martin, assistant professor in the division of public health of the health policy institute at the Medical College, will serve as the project leader.
The Medical College of Wisconsin bone and marrow transplant program at Froedtert Hospital and Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin was reaccredited for three years by the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT). The program has been accredited since 2000.
Milwaukee Area Technical College
Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) received a two-year, $80,000 grant from The Helen Bader Foundation Inc., Milwaukee, for Phase III of the 21st Century Urban Technical Education Project. Grant funds will allow expansion of a high school career planning and scholarship program for 80 qualified, low and middle income students who intend to pursue post-secondary technical education programs at MATC. The program will be piloted at Bradley Tech, South Division and Pulaski high schools. The project is a joint venture of the National Science Foundation, MATC, Milwaukee Public Schools and UW-Stout.
DBA Marketing Communications
Nelson Sales Corp., Muskego, contracted DBA Marketing Communications, Delafield, to develop an integrated marketing communications campaign for the company. Nelson Sales provides turnkey tooling equipment.

- The American Society of Interior Design Wisconsin, Milwaukee, recognized area interior design firms in its 2005 Design Awards competition.

Milwaukee Public Schools
The Lynde & Harry Bradley Technology Trade School, Milwaukee, partnered with the Associated General Contractors of Greater Milwaukee, Wauwatosa, in a new initiative to provide a series of classes to the 11th and 12th grade Construction Academy high school students on information concerning construction safety. The first series of classes were presented at the Lynde & Harry Bradley Technology Trade School March 7 and 8.
