We Energies will get its chance to challenge Alliant Energy’s plan to build a power plant in the town of Beloit, in a move that one environmental advocate says came as a big surprise.
The Wisconsin Public Service Commission voted 3-0 on Thursday to let the Milwaukee utility company intervene in Alliant’s proposal to build a $750 million, natural gas-fired power plant next to the existing, natural gas-fired Riverside power plant. The new generator would produce 650 megawatts of electricity, enough for more than 500,000 homes.
