In the last five years, Advanced Waste Services Inc. has received numerous accolades. The key to the West Allis-based company’s success is innovation, according to president Mike Malatesta.
Founded as a waste trucking company in 1992, the company has grown into a $32 million organization, operating full-service waste collection and non-hazardous waste processing facilities in four states.
The company pursues innovation to transform the industry, Malatesta said.
“I believe that is and has been (the focus) to transform the way we to do business and how our industry does business,” he said. “I have not only lived the ups and downs of the entrepreneurial cycle, but I’ve learned the importance and impact that innovation and transformation bring, not just to an organization, but to every person in that organization.”
The company recently received a patent for the VacSimizer, which is used for waste removal that has the largest legal payload in the vacuum truck industry. The company plans to manufacturer the product.
With the organization’s commitment to innovation, the vision for Advanced Waste is to become a $100 million company by 2015, Malatesta said.
Malatesta is not only focused on product development, he also focuses internally on developing employees through an Elite Rewards goal setting program.
“We’ve created goal setters and goal achievers,” he said.
For the company’s future expansion, Malatesta plans on growing the business within the Great Lakes region.
“For us (to be) able to replicate what we do best and what we have, we can’t just do this organically, we have to add locations, select the best people and get (them) into our culture of doing business,” Malatesta said. “The world is waiting. Clients and customers are waiting for us. If we can put our operations in the right spot and paired with our experience the rest takes care of itself.”
