FedEx has opened its distribution center in Menomonee Falls.

A grand opening ceremony to celebrate the construction of the new facility took place today.

“Luckily we’ve been growing, and there’s just been a demand for our delivery services,” said spokesman David Westrick. “We needed a newer, larger facility in the area, and we are here.”

Currently, 225 people work at the facility, and Westrick said FedEx Ground hopes to hire more in the future.

“We moved into a larger facility with the hopes that our growth record will continue,” he said. “There’s definitely room to be adding more people as there’s an increase in demand for our package delivery service.”

According to a village staff report published earlier this year, the plan is for the facility to have 466 employees, including 74 office employees, with 205 full-time and 262 part-time employees.

The facility is located at N96 W. 14849 County Line Road, near Pilgrim and County Line roads.

Westrick said the Menomonee Falls location was selected because of its proximity to the highway, local businesses and potential employees.

Westrick did not disclose the investment in the property, which was new construction. The west side of the building has 58 loading docks for semi-trailers, and the east side of the building has seven drive-in overhead doors for delivery vans, according to the village staff report.

The building will have 194,325 square feet of distribution area and an 8,625-square-foot office space area.

The Menomonee Falls facility is part of the company’s nationwide network expansion plan in which 11 major hubs have been added and 500 other facilities have expanded or relocated around the country since 2005.
