Chuck Frey, marketing manager for Waterford-based Vista Training Inc., started experimenting with photography at age 18, when he was introduced to night photography techniques while in college.

Frey started his Milwaukee at Night collection a few years ago and enjoys the challenges presented by successfully capturing night photography.

“Milwaukee is such a beautiful city,” Frey said. “Even in a city-scape there is beauty, but if you see a subject in a different light, particularly in the existing light used in night photography it brings forth another whole character you may not have seen before.”

Frey uses a digital SLR camera and existing ambient lighting to capture scenes from the Milwaukee area. He particularly enjoys shooting near the river and the lakefront.

Frey goes out once or twice a month to capture new shots of Milwaukee and eventually hopes to be able to sell prints off his website: www.milwaukeeatnight.net. He also wants to experiment with time-lapse photography of the city, he said.

“Sometimes a photo I envisioned doesn’t turn out quite as exciting as I thought it would, but more often the outcome is very rewarding,” he said. “It’s a chance to create something different and unique.”
