Bucyrus partners with Oak Creek High School

South Milwaukee-based Bucyrus Inc., which has had difficulties in finding qualified employees for its manufacturing operations, is now working on a new relationship with Oak Creek High School to create an engineering-related program.

Starting this fall, classes will be held in a dedicated space in the company’s headquarters, said Amy Malingowski, a company spokesperson.

“The classes will be on-site here, and are still being developed,” she said. “We’re hoping to give them an opportunity to interact with our engineers to how what they’re learning is being applied in real life and to see it applied in the manufacturing process.”

Bucyrus’ partnership with Oak Creek High School is part of a Project Lead the Way project. Project Lead the Way is a national program that stresses science, technology, engineering and math education.

The company is looking to generate interest in engineering amongst area high school students because it needs future workers, Malingowski said.

“Engineers are a big need for us,” she said. “This is a first step. It could expand into other schools or even colleges on the engineering side.”
