Cudahy-based Man Lift Mfg. Co. is relocating to Shelby, N.C. The news was confirmed by Don Dunn, president and chief executive officer of Universal Mfg. Co., the Lincoln, Neb.-based parent company of Man Lift.
Man Lift, which makes aerial and material handling mobile hydraulic equipment, had 38 employees when the decision was made to relocate, Dunn said. About 40 percent of them are still with the company; the remainder found alternative employment.
Dunn said some employees are moving to North Carolina, and some will stay in Milwaukee and work remotely. The company will rehire in North Carolina for the positions that were left vacant.
“We purchased another business operation in Shelby, and the facility we acquired is adequate to house not only the business acquired but also Man Lift, so we are consolidating for efficiencies and improved production capabilities,” Dunn said.
Several employees have already begun working in Shelby, according to Dunn, while others are in transition. He said Man Lift will close its leased Cudahy building at 5707 S. Pennsylvania Ave. in the “foreseeable future.” Some employees are still working in the facility, but production has ceased.
Universal Mfg. Co. purchased Man Lift in 2010. Man Lift will be consolidated in Shelby with Metal Works Mfg. Co. and Ultra Armoring LLC.
