Barrett, Froedtert Health open city’s first workplace clinic

Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett and the Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin Health Team hosted a ribbon cutting this morning for the opening of the city’s first workplace clinic.

Located in the Frank P. Zeidler Municipal Building, 841 N. Broadway St., the on-site clinic will be staffed three days a week with a Froedtert & The Medical College nurse practitioner who will provide care to city of Milwaukee employees, their spouses and domestic partners.

The nurse practitioner can address cold/flu symptoms, infections, sprains and strains and other minor illnesses. Preventive services such as immunizations and screenings will also be available.

“Successful employers of the future will embrace a more comprehensive approach to workforce health to improve health and reign in costs,” said David Olson, senior vice president and chief strategy officer for Froedtert Health. “This means keeping people healthy, and providing the right care, at the right time, and at the right place.”

The on-site clinic represents an extension of the city’s five-year partnership with the Froedtert Workforce Health team to improve employee wellness and reduce health care costs.

In 2010, Milwaukee became the nation’s largest city to receive a “Well City USA” silver designation, and has been designated as a Well City USA since. In 2011, a first-of-its-kind city initiative involved 90 percent of city employees and spouses receiving a Health Risk Assessment. Froedtert clinicians used the HRA results to provide one-on-one health coaching to employees and spouses. More than 98 percent of participants said the education given to them was valuable and tailored to their personal needs.

“Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin is grateful to continue our partnership today with the city of Milwaukee,” Olson said. “Many individuals who walk through this clinic’s doors will have their lives changed for the better–as they collaborate with our workforce health team to improve their health.”

The Zeidler Municipal Building houses about a dozen city of Milwaukee offices including the city attorney, the city records center and neighborhood services.
