The University of Wisconsin-Waukesha will use a $25,000 grant from the Greater Milwaukee Foundation to support first-generation college students as well as low-income and minority students who are among the most at risk of dropping out after their first year of classes.
The grant will directly benefit the institution’s Stay and Succeed Program, which offers these students a menu of resources, academic assistance, and career exploration opportunities among other opportunities throughout their course of study.
“There have been a lot of successful efforts that get first-generation students to college,” said Jeannie Fenceroy, a senior program officer at the Greater Milwaukee Foundation. “However, effective efforts that help the same students get through college have paled in comparison. That trend is changing and UW-Waukesha understands what it takes to support students to degree completion.”
The Greater Milwaukee Foundation gave the grant to the University of Wisconsin-Waukesha Foundation through its third quarter competitive grantmaking cycle, during which it distributed more than $1.1 million in grants
