Madison-based WPS Health Insurance today announced it has hired former state Medicaid director Brett Davis as its new Vice President of Provider Relations.
Davis resigned from his position as state Medicaid director at the Department of Health Services (DHS) in March.
“I am looking forward to leveraging Brett’s deep relationships and experience with providers around the state, and for innovative ways to structure and negotiate arrangements with our partners that will improve health care value and enhance insurance coverage in Wisconsin,” said Scott Kowalski, Executive Vice President of WPS Health Insurance, in a press release. “Brett has a high degree of comfort with the corporate budgeting process, implementation of the Affordable Care Act, working with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, and navigating through government regulations.”
WPS said Davis “oversaw a budget of $8 billion serving 1.1 million Wisconsin residents, and managed hundreds of employees” in his role at DHS.
Green Bay-based Arise Health Plan, a wholly owned subsidiary of WPS, offers insurance plans in 26 Wisconsin counties on the state’s health insurance marketplace.
Davis was appointed Medicaid director by then-Health Services Secretary Dennis Smith on Jan. 4, 2011. Prior to his role at DHS, he served as a member of the State Assembly for six years, and was a Republican candidate for lieutenant governor in 2010.
DHS has not yet named Davis’ replacement as Medicaid director.
