Home sales in the 4-county metro Milwaukee area increased 7.7 percent in September.
Home sales in the 4-county metro Milwaukee area (Milwaukee, Waukesha, Ozaukee and Washington counties) increased 7.7 percent in September compared to September of 2008, according to Metro MLS Inc.
The metro area had 1,306 home sales in the month, compared to 1,213 in September of 2008 and 1,177 in September of 2007.
Milwaukee County reported a sales increase for the 6th consecutive month, and sales there were up 6.8 percent in September. Homes sales increased 6.4 percent in Waukesha County, 19.3 percent in Washington County and 3.7 percent in Ozaukee County.
The increase in the number of homes sold has largely been driven by a steady decline in the prices of homes. In the third quarter prices were down 22.2 percent in Milwaukee County, 4.8 percent in Waukesha County, 10.4 percent in Washington County, 10.7 percent in Ozaukee County, 12.2 percent in Racine County, 15.5 percent in Kenosha County and 14.6 percent in Walworth County.
