Wisconsin now ahead of Obamacare enrollment targets

More than 56,000 people in Wisconsin have signed up through the Obamacare insurance marketplace. This means signups in Wisconsin are, for the first time, higher than the original enrollment target from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

In September, HHS projected monthly enrollment targets for each state, putting Wisconsin’s cumulative projection for the end of January at 48,980. Wisconsin also beat its monthly target for January – 11,850 – with 15,684 signing up during the month.

The Associated Press reported that Wisconsin is one of six Republican-led states, along with Florida, Idaho, Maine, Michigan and North Carolina, that are on pace or better than targets.

Wisconsin stands at 115.2 percent of its expected target. Data shows this is the ninth highest percentage in the nation and the highest in the Midwest. Michigan is next on the list at 112.2 percent of its target. Connecticut is the highest with 237.9 percent and Massachusetts is the lowest with 5.3 percent.

A total 63,200 people are projected to sign up in Wisconsin by the end of February, and 79,000 by March 31, the final day of the open enrollment period.
