Wisconsin Center District hires firm to oversee arena project

A Texas-based sports management firm has been hired by the Wisconsin Center District to “look over the shoulder” of the Milwaukee Bucks as the arena project proceeds.

PC Sports Inc. will serve as the district’s owner’s representative. In the role, the San Antonio-based company will review documents, oversee design of the new arena and make sure the project’s $500 million budget stays on track, said Greg Murray, chief legal counsel with the Wisconsin Department of Administration.

The firm’s contract with the district will last through the duration of the arena project. Murray would not release details on how much PC Sports is being paid.

The district owns and operates the Wisconsin Center convention center, the UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena and the Milwaukee Theatre. Eventually, the Wisconsin Center District will own the new arena, under a state law passed in 2015.

“The Bucks will have their own owner’s rep,” Murray said. “This consultant will look over their shoulder and protect the interests of the Wisconsin Center District.”

PC Sports Inc. was chosen after an RFP was issued in December and eight firms were interviewed in January by the district, the Department of Administration and California-based Barrett Sports Group.

PC Sports’ portfolio of work includes other NBA area projects, including the FedEx Forum in Memphis, Tenn. and the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas.

“We had some very well qualified firms, but were cognizant of looking for a firm without any potential conflicts of interest,” Murray said.
