U.S. Bank to lay off 64 employees downtown
Minneapolis-based US. Bancorp has notified the state Department of Workforce Development that it will restructure its operations in the U.S. Bank Center at 777 E. Wisconsin Ave. in downtown Milwaukee, which will result in the elimination of 64 jobs.
The employees that will be laid off are in the bank’s fraud and dispute management area, which has about 400 workers in total, said Lisa Clark, U.S. Bank spokeswoman. Due to advances in technology, the bank no longer needs as many employees in that area, she said.
The layoffs are expected to begin on April 1. Some of the employees that will be laid off are represented by AFSCME Local 777.
U.S. Bank employs about 3,400 in the metro Milwaukee area. Clark said the bank is encouraging the employees who will be losing their positions to apply for other open jobs in the company. It also operates three additional fraud and dispute management call centers in other cities, and workers who are interested in moving may be able to shift to those markets, she said.
