Waukesha United Way grants request for emergency funds

The board of directors of the United Way in Waukesha County recently approved an emergency fund request from the Oconomowoc Area Chamber of Commerce.

The board of directors of the United Way in Waukesha County recently approved a $1,000 emergency fund request from the Oconomowoc Area Chamber of Commerce. The funding will provide assistance for 85 individuals and families in the Oconomowoc area who have been living without a home due to economic difficulties.
“This is why United Way is here – to provide assistance to individuals and families in our community who are in need, said Paul Melnick, senior vice president of Marine Bank and United Way board president. “No one is immune to the toll the economy is taking on the lives of Waukesha County residents, and United Way is dedicated to helping members of our community get back on their feet.
The Oconomowoc Area Chamber reached out to the United Way for assistance when the organization learned that 85 individuals and families were living in their cars due to the strains of the economy.
“It was impactful for us to respond to this emergency as we look to support all areas of the county,” said John Schiraj, director of impact strategies and results at United Way in Waukesha County. “We are thankful for the quick action taken by our board to approve the request.”
