Wal-Mart completes expansion of South 27th Street store

Milwaukee shoppers can now buy groceries at the Wal-Mart store at 3355 S. 27th St. on the south side of the city of Milwaukee. The store, which originally opened in 2001, is the first Wal-Mart to offer a full line of groceries in Milwaukee County.

A grand opening ceremony for the expanded store was held this morning.

Bentonville, Ark.-based Wal-Mart Stores Inc. expanded the store by 71,086 square feet, increasing its size from 137,742 square feet to 208,828 square feet.

The store plans to employ approximately 500 people, including 150 new positions created by the recent expansion.

“We are proud to bring additional savings and good jobs to working families in our community,” said store manager Terra Biggin. “Our customers need our unbeatable prices more now than they ever have.”

The expanded store now features a more open shopping environment with wider aisles that contain no product displays. Wal-Mart also aligned the departments that customers shop most frequently, making it quicker to purchase everyday items.

“We listened to our customers and have redesigned the store to make shopping at Wal-Mart even easier,” said Biggin. “The new layout is easier to navigate, which will save our customers time as they shop for necessities.”
