The search for the next dean of the College of Business and Economics at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater has been narrowed to a field of four finalists. A decision should be made by March, said Jeffrey Barnett, chairman of the Search and Screen Committee and dean of the College of Education.
"We have a strong pool of excellent candidates," said Barnett of the 23 applicants. "The new dean must be familiar with accrediting standards, show leadership and vision, be committed to diversity and encourage external support for new and existing programs and facilities."
Interview dates have been set for January and February. The position has been open since former dean Joseph Domitrz retired in July. Finalists are:
* Steve Holland, chair of the Department of Finance and Economics at Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of South Carolina, his master’s degree from Vanderbilt University and his Ph.D. in economics from Michigan State University. Holland previously taught at the Economics Institute in Boulder, Colo.
* Joe Alber, dean of the College of Business and Public Administration at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. He has been dean since 1997 and spent most of his professional career at Drake and at Bradley University, where he was a professor of business computer systems. Alber holds a bachelor’s degree from Lehigh University, a master’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh and a Ph.D. in operations management, finance and computer science from Pennsylvania State University.
* Ali Ardalan, associate dean of the College of Business and Public Administration at Old Dominion University in Virginia. Ardalan also is interim director for the Center for Global Business and Executive Education there. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Shiraz University in Iran, and an MBA and Ph.D. from the University of Arizona.
* Christine Clements, interim dean of the College of Business and Economics at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Clements has taught at UW-Whitewater since 1990 and has been chair of the management department since 1995. She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, an MBA from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and a Ph.D. in business administration from the University of Arkansas.
