United Way surpasses campaign goal

The United Way of Greater Milwaukee has announced that it has exceeded it’s $45.75 million fundraising goal

The United Way of Greater Milwaukee has announced that it has exceeded its $45.75 million fundraising goal by raising $46.54 million in its 2010 fundraising campaign.
"The fact that we were able to reach this new height in United Way support is a testimonial to the generosity of the people in our community," said Lynn Sprangers, executive in residence for Women’s Leadership at Mount Mary College and a 2010 Community Campaign Co-Chair.  "The results of this campaign once again demonstrate that the United Way matters to people:  it is something that brings us all together and in the end it gives us a stronger, better community."
The amount is $1 million more than the 2009 campaign, which makes it the largest year-over-year dollar increase in the organization’s history. The money raised during the campaign will go to support more than 160 programs at more than 80 local agencies.
“The results of this campaign are indicative of the spirit and grit of Milwaukee – overcoming adversity, hard work, not giving up,” said Dr. Nick Turkal, president and CEO of Aurora Health Care and 2010 Community Campaign co-chair. “We all ought to be proud and grateful that the community heard the message and acted on it.”
Johnson Controls Inc., achieved the largest annual combined workplace campaign total in United Way’s history by raising $4.1 million and surpassing last year’s total by nearly $1 million. Nortwestern Mutual raised $3.6 million and achieved 80 percent employee participation, and long time supporter Robert W. Baird & Co. Inc., raised $1 million for the first time as well.
“I could not think of a better way to end my first year as United Way of Greater Milwaukee’s president and CEO,” said Mary Lou Young, president and CEO, United Way of Greater Milwaukee. “But our work does not stop now that we’ve achieved our fundraising goal. We are a 365-day-per-year operation in the business of changing lives. The money our community raised will help significantly at a dire time. But no matter how much we raise, there is always more we could do. We encourage people who haven’t given yet, to still reach out and give to United Way.”
