Rodney Prunty has led organization since 2013

United Way of Racine County president and chief executive officer Rodney Prunty will leave the organization in June to lead United Way of Central New Mexico.

Prunty joined the United Way of Racine County in 2013. He was previously vice president of United Way of Rock River Valley in Rockford, Illinois.

During his tenure, Prunty oversaw fundraising efforts that put the United Way of Racine County in the top 10 percent per capita in the United Way Network, and oversaw the top three fundraising campaigns in the organization’s history.

Also under his leadership, United Way has grown its partnership with Racine Unified School District and other community organizations. Those partnerships led to the opening in 2016 of Racine County’s first community school, Knapp Elementary, which is designed to connect families, the school and the surrounding neighborhood with resources focused on academics, family relationships, health and social services.

Prunty’s resignation is effective June 5.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in Racine,” Prunty said. “This is a unique community with a strong philanthropic spirit, a culture of volunteerism, and community leaders whose unprecedented collaboration across sectors improves education outcomes, increases economic mobility, and ensures that everyone has the opportunity to be healthier. I am fortunate to have worked with so many individuals who are tirelessly dedicated to making a difference. For that reason and many others, Racine will always have a special place in my heart.”

Prutny will begin his new role as president and CEO of United Way of Central New Mexico in Albuquerque on June 12.

Karin Kirchmeier, vice president of community impact for United Way of Racine County, will become acting CEO until Prunty’s permanent replacement is identified.

“On behalf of the board, I want to thank Rodney for his years of service at United Way of Racine County,” said Rebecca Mason, board chair of United Way of Racine County. “Rodney’s outstanding leadership, passion, and vision have helped reshape and elevate our organization and the Racine community. It has been a great pleasure to work with Rodney. Although we are sad he is leaving, we celebrate his success and wish he and his family good luck in this next chapter of their lives.”
