Uber, the fast-growing mobile app that connects passengers with drivers of vehicles, has officially launched in Milwaukee.
“Today, we are launching our signature product UberBLACK,” said Natalia Montalvo, spokesperson for Uber. “Milwaukee is the first Uber city in Wisconsin and we’re excited to bring seamless, reliable and stylish rides at the touch of a button. This presents a great opportunity to improve transportation options for Milwaukee residents and visitors. We know that consumers have been trying to open the app and get a ride – speaking to huge consumer demand. The weather has been frigid, and with limited public transportation options, Milwaukee has all the markings of a city where Uber will have a serious impact on riders and drivers alike.”
The San Francisco-based company made the announcement on its blog, with Milwaukee Bucks guard Brandon Knight as its first Milwaukee passenger.
Milwaukee is the first city in Wisconsin with Uber, which is now in more than 70 cities around the world.
“Home to some of the best festivals in the country and with IPAs being freshly brewed just a HOP away, bringing Uber to Milwaukee was a no-brainer for Team Uber,” the company said. “With UberBLACK hitting the streets this weekend, (Milwaukeeans) now have a convenient, stylish and seamless way to move around the city.
“With just the push of a button, Uber will connect you with the closest available driver in town, ready to pick you up in minutes. You’ll be able to see a picture of your driver, the car they’re driving, and can even track their progress as they drive toward you!”
The announcement said Uber in Milwaukee is in its “early testing phase” and availability will be limited.
Uber’s website lists several options for its service, noting UberBLACK as “the original,” among other options including UberX, Taxi, SUV and LUX. UberBLACK is described as “your own private driver, on demand. Expert pickup in a high-end sedan within minutes.”
The app is available for iPhone, Android and Blackberry devices.
