Milwaukee-based SURG Restaurant Group will close its Brookfield restaurant HŌM Wood Fired Grill after business Tuesday.
The restaurant, 17800 W. Bluemound Road, originally opened as the western branch of another SURG restaurant, Umami Moto, and was recast as HŌM in 2013.
SURG issued a press release on Monday saying the company decided not to renew its lease and would focus its energy on its Glendale location for HŌM Wood Fired Grill, at Bayshore Town Center, and its other restaurants.
Approximately 30 people worked at the Brookfield restaurant, most are staying with the company or moving to other SURG venues, according to a company spokesperson.
“We are extremely proud of the food and service we offered in this location and plan to continue the tradition at our Glendale restaurant,” SURG co-owner/CEO Michael Polaski said in a statement. “With the changing times, SURG has decided that this is an opportunity to focus on other areas and continue to improve our positions."
SURG co-owner/president Omar Shaikh said it is bittersweet to close the restaurant, but he is excited for new growth.
“We have been fortunate to build wonderful relationships with the people in this town and we hope everyone will come see us at our downtown and Glendale restaurants,” Shaikh said in a statement.
SURG owns Carnevor- Steakhouse Moderne, Distil- House of Bourbon, Mi·Key’s- Modern BBQ, HŌM- Wood Fired Grill, Gouda’s- Italian Deli and Bugsy’s Back Alley Speakeasy.
SURG also operates SURG on the Water, a private event and banquet space in the Third Ward and the company recently opened The Garden, a banquet facility in downtown Milwaukee, and LUCID, a lounge.
The company also oversees concessions at Bradford Beach.
