Boosted by the federal home buyer tax credit sales of existing homes in Wisconsin rose 19.4 percent in the second quarter, compared to the second quarter of 2009, according to the Wisconsin Realtors Association.
The states median home sales prices dipped 0.1 percent in the second quarter of 2009.
In the eight county southeastern Wisconsin region the number of existing home sales in the second quarter increased by 17.5 percent to 6,560. The median sale price in the region was $160,000, up 0.3 percent compared to the second quarter of 2009.
The county by county breakdown for the second quarter:
- Milwaukee, 2,811 sales, up 11.0 percent; $135,000 median sale price, up 3.1 percent
- Waukesha, 1,297 sales, up 27.0 percent; $230,000 median sale price, up 0.2 percent
- Racine, 556 sales, up 10.1 percent; $135,050 median sale price, down 3.5 percent
- Kenosha, 479 sales, up 20.7 percent; $130,000 median sale price, down 9.9 percent Washington, 415 sales up 11.3 percent; $187,000 median sale price, up 2.7 percent
- Walworth, 378 sales, up 32.6 percent; $165,800 median sale price, down 2.4 percent
- Sheboygan, 327 sales, up 31.9 percent; $118,800 median sale price, down 5.9 percent
- Ozaukee, 297 sales, up 35.0 percent; $220,000 median sale price, down 1.6 percent
“We expected a bounce in the second quarter with the expiration of the federal tax credit program,” said Bill Malkasian, president of the Wisconsin Realtors Association. “Looking ahead, we need to see healthy job growth continue in the second half of the year.”
