American Concrete Pipe, a division of Waukesha-based The Spancrete Group Inc., has notified the state Department of Workforce Development (DWD) that it is closing its plants in Milwaukee and Green Bay.
The American Concrete Pipe plant in Milwaukee was closed earlier this week, putting about 10 employees out of work. The company’s facilities in Green Bay will be closed by November, eliminating 35 jobs.
County Materials Corp., a Marathon-based manufacturer of concrete pipes, precast concrete and masonry products, has purchased all of the assets of American Concrete Pipe. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
A Spancrete spokeswoman said she did not know if County Materials would hire any of the American Concrete Pipe workers.
Spancrete also makes bridge components at its American Concrete Pipe facility in Green Bay. The company will begin moving its bridge components operations to another location there within the next 24 months, said John Nagy, president and chief executive officer of Spancrete.
“This business unit is outside of Spancrete’s core focus of precast concrete building solutions Nagy said. “This is a great opportunity for both Spancrete and County Materials to solidify their positions in the marketplace.”
