Milwaukee business applying for MEDC loan

Sign-A-Rama is planning to move to a larger location in Milwaukee, which will allow the business to nearly double the size of its staff and consolidate its operations into one location.

Brian Cass, owner of the business-to-business sign shop, said Sign-A-Rama outgrew its 8,000-square-foot space at 272 North 12th St. several years ago.

In fact, the company has been using a warehouse in Waukesha for many years as an overflow space, Cass said.

Sign-A-Rama has applied for a $506,000 loan from the Milwaukee Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) to purchase a 29,184-square-foot industrial building at 5061 W. State Street. The plan is to renovate the property and move all of its operations there.

“The core business has been expanding, but we also started offering screen printing and more promotional products,” Cass said.

Sign-A-Rama, which has been in business for 14 years, currently employs 13 full-time people. With the expansion, Cass hopes to increase that to 25 within the next two years.

MEDC’s loan and finance committee will review the request on Tuesday.
