The former shipping center building at the former Pabst brewery complex in downtown Milwaukee has been sold for $2.5 million to a real estate investment group planning to lease the building to several tenants, including Milwaukee Brewing Co.
The 170,000 square-foot building at 1131 N. 8th St., sold to SSL Milwaukee LLC, according to state records. The property has an assessed value of about $2.2 million, according to city records.
Milwaukee Brewing Co. (MKE Brewing) is leasing 58,000 square feet of space in the building. An 85,000-square-foot self-storage facility and a 28,000-square-foot office space tenant are also planned.
The immediate use of the MKE Brewing space will be as a warehouse and cold storage to take pressure off of its expanding operations at its 15,000-square-foot facility at 613 S. 2nd St. in the city’s Walker’s Point neighborhood.
MKE Brewing’s long term plans for the building may include brewing operations, a tasting room, event space and a beer garden, according to Jim McCabe, Milwaukee Brewing Co. founder.
The former Pabst brewery complex has been transformed into a mixed-use neighborhood called The Brewery.
