Sam’s Club store planned in Sheboygan

Sam’s Club, a divison of Wal-Mart Stores Inc., announced Tuesday that the company plans to convert a former Menard’s store in the Town of Sheboygan into a 137,000-square-foot Sam’s Club store.

The former Menard’s store is located southeast of I-43 and County Highway J. It was replaced by a new Menard’s store built in 2008 northwest of I-43 and Highway 42.

The area is located within the Town of Sheboygan, just northwest of the City of Sheboygan.

“The Town (of Sheboygan) is very pleased to welcome a new Sam’s Club to the community,” said Town Chairman Dan Hein. “A Sam’s Club in the Town of Sheboygan will reinvigorate our commercial corridor and provide approximately 140 quality jobs to the area as well as add a vital increase to the town’s tax base. We look forward to working with a retailer as strong as Sam’s Club to make this new development a reality.”

The proposed Sam’s Club store will include a members-only fueling station. Sam’s Club has also proposed developing two outlots for other retailers.

“We are excited to offer our current and future Sheboygan members a convenient new Sam’s Club, allowing them to stock up and save on a variety of family and small business needs. Right now, members are driving to clubs in Milwaukee, Appleton or Waukesha and through this new club, we hope to provide a more convenient location for our members,” said Craig McNair, regional vice president for the Sam’s Club Great Lakes Region.
