Salvation Army to open Brown Deer Road store

The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center of Milwaukee plans to open a thrift store in a 16,709-square-foot building at 8008 W. Brown Deer Road in Milwaukee.

The property is a vacant, free-standing retail building in an outlot south of the former Northridge Mall. The building was constructed in 1995 and was at one time occupied by a Deals store, but it has been vacant for some time. The building is owned by Schaumburg, Ill.-based RMS Properties LLC, according to city records.

The Brown Deer Road retail corridor, particularly the area near North 76th Street, has struggled since Northridge Mall closed in 2003. However the area has shown some signs of improvement recently. Penzeys Spices is still working through the process of acquiring the former mall.
