Region’s housing starts are anemic

New home construction remains at an anemic pace in southeastern Wisconsin. In the four county metro area there were only 65 housing starts in July, down from 69 in July of 2009 are far below July housing starts that consistently between of 190-261 from 2000 to 2005, according to the latest housing starts data from Oshkosh-based MTD Marketing Services of Wisconsin Inc.
Housing starts in the area are up overall year to date with 544 in the first seven months of 2010, compared to 449 in the first seven months of 2009.
However, the 2010 home construction market was boosted by the federal homebuyers tax credit, which expired at the end of April. This year’s housing starts peaked with 104 in March and 104 in May, but have declined to 83 in June and 65 in July.
