Redevelopment of Walker’s Point buildings begins

The redevelopment of three adjacent buildings in Walker’s Point is about to begin, which will convert the underused space into a mixed-use development on one of the Milwaukee neighborhood’s most prominent corners.

Bloomington, Ind. –based Cedar View Management has pulled a $2.96 million building permit and will convert the 90,180-square-foot property at 129-133 W. Pittsburgh Ave. into apartments with retail on the first floor, offices on the second floor and residential on the third through fifth floors.

Gilliatte General Contractors of Indianapolis has been hired as the general contractor, according to the building permit.

In November, the buildings were sold through a foreclosure auction for $2.2 million to Cedar View.

The buildings, which are five, four and two stories tall, were built in the 1890s. Only the two-story building is on the historic register.

Cedar View is working with Zimmerman Architectural Studios, Inc., locally and Indianapolis-based Studio 3 Design.

Cedar View mainly operates apartments in Bloomington’s downtown area and around the Indiana University campus.

According to the building permit, the first floor will have five tenant spaces, the second floor will be office, the third and fourth floors will have 14 residential units each and the fifth floor will have 10 residential units.

Suzanne O’Connell, vice president of Cedar View could not immediately be reached for comment.
