Notable Women in Technology: Liz Kohler

Class of 2024

Liz Kohler is founder and chief executive officer of Milwaukee-based Nexion Solutions, the maker of a wearable device designed to protect people – primarily women – who are in harmful situations or work in spaces of potential violence.

The mission of the company is to prevent the escalation of violence and recurring revictimization by harnessing the power of safety systems (security, law enforcement and government) and enabling a better-informed emergency response based on individual crisis events, according to Lisa Proeber, owner of Milwaukee-based The Middle Six.

“Liz started (Nexion Solutions) after losing her sister to domestic violence and taking a professional seat in victim services in the district attorney’s office in Milwaukee. There she realized violence was much more pervasive than she originally thought – and the helplessness she felt at the lack of options to protect the women and children she met with resulted in the founding of the company,” Proeber said.

Last year, Kohler partnered with Sojourner Family Peace Center and the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office for the first implementation of a pilot program using the new technology.
