Notable Health Care Leaders: Dr. Nkem Iroegbu

Class of 2023

During his 30-plus-year career, Dr. Nkem Iroegbu has served in leadership and teaching roles and provided direct patient care. In 2022, he was named president of Aurora Sinai Medical Center in downtown Milwaukee, and then in November 2023, he also took the helm at Aurora St. Luke’s South Shore in Cudahy.

“At Aurora Sinai, he focuses on greater racial equity and access to care,” said Matt Queen, who handles marketing and public affairs for Aurora Health Care. “In 2023, he led a successful project to reduce the disparities in limb amputations among diabetic persons of color. Under his leadership, Aurora Sinai has improved patient experience, safety and health outcomes, and employee recruitment and retention.”

In his previous role as chief medical officer at Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center in Milwaukee, Iroegbu helped drive a regional collaborative of physician leaders and public health officials to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.

He also served as interim president at Aurora Medical Center – Grafton and on the Clinical Council for the Milwaukee Health Care Partnership. Iroegbu currently sits on the board of Near West Side Partners and has been appointed to the Wisconsin Hospital Association Public Policy Council.
