Wisconsin Lutheran hosts Relay for Life rally
The American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Wauwatosa will host a relay for life rally at the Wisconsin Lutheran Athletic Field, 10200 W. Watertown Plank Road tonight at 6 p.m.
Relay For Life events are held as individuals and teams gather at an athletic track, park or other gathering area, with the goal of keeping at least one team member on the track or pathway at all times throughout the evening. Teams do most of their fundraising prior to the event, but some teams also hold creative fundraisers at their Relay.
Among the evening’s events are the opening ceremony with a survivor and caregiver lap, a silent auction, the Luminaria Ceremony, themed laps throughout the night and a closing ceremony. Relay For Life’s Luminaria Ceremony will take place at 10 p.m. and will honor the community’s cancer survivors and remember those lost to the disease. Participants will circle a track that is surrounded with glowing luminaria that bear the name of someone who has battled cancer. Luminaria may be purchased for $5.00 by visiting www.relayforlife.org/wauwatosawi. Registration will begin at 3:00 pm.
