Sheboygan Senior Community plans to build a seven-story, 80-unit apartment building called Landmark Towers for active senior citizens at Sixth Street and Niagara Avenue in downtown Sheboygan.
Part of the Landmark Towers building will be seven stories tall, and the other part will be five stories tall. It will be one of the tallest buildings in downtown Sheboygan. The tallest is the U.S. Bank office building at 605 N. 8th St.
The senior apartments will range from 750 square feet to 1,500 square feet and be available for people age 62 and older. Rents will range from $1,600 to $2,400 per month.
Tenants also will have to pay an entry fee of $116,000 to $248,000, depending on the size of the unit, of which at least 90 percent will be reimbursed when they move out.
"This is not just an apartment building," said Janet Carter, director of marketing for Landmark Towers. "This is part of a senior community. The entry fee is part of living in the community."
Residents in the apartment building will be able to take advantage of several features, including free meals, transportation services, linen and housekeeping services, a fitness center and a spa.
Many of the units will have views of Lake Michigan.
"We anticipate from the fourth floor (and up) they will have excellent lake views,"
So far, 10 units have been reserved, she said.
Sheboygan Senior Community also owns Lighthouse Commons, a 65-unit assisted living facility, and Beach Health Care Center, a skilled nursing home, both located at 930 N. 6th St. near the Landmark Towers site.
The combination of the apartment complex, the assisted living center and the skilled nursing home will allow Sheboygan Senior Community to offer residents a smooth transition from one facility to the next as they age and need more intense levels of care, Carter said.
