New app offers nonprofit management tips

Patricia Wyzbinski, nonprofit management expert and president and founder of Milwaukee based Management Cornerstone Inc. has teamed up with Barb Knoff, president of Chicago-based Millennium 3 to form Nonprofit Smarts LLC. The new company recently released an iPhone application designed to offer nonprofit professionals and supporters tips on effective nonprofit management.
“We were really looking for another way to get helpful information to people,” Wyzbinski said. “My business partner and I have a really good time learning new technology.”
Wyzbinksi and Knoff previously produced podcast management interviews through Boardstar, which recently became its own 501(c)3 organization.
The new application is available in the Apple app store for 99 cents.
“We really tried to think about it in a way that we could offer a tip a day for a year,” Wyzbinski said. “The tips are written in a way that they will always be relevant.”
According to Wyzbinski, the app features 365 tips under 32 different categories including board retreats, budgeting, collaboration, earned revenues, fundraising and more aspects of nonprofit management and governance.
“Users are able to receive a tip a day or they can search for specific tips on different categories,” she said. “Some categories have more than 100 tips. We wanted to make it very easy and affordable for anyone who supports the nonprofit community.”
Nonprofit Smarts has plans to work on an Android version of the application and also plans to write updated content for future versions.
