National triathlon to be held downtown

The 2013 USA Triathlon Age Group Nationals is being held this weekend at the Milwaukee lakefront.

Visit Milwaukee estimates $2.3 million in local economic impact from the event, with 4,500 athletes participating in the events, and thousands of accompanying family members and spectators coming to the city.

The event is one of the largest triathlons in the country, and is expected to surpass last year’s event as the largest USA Triathlon-owned National Championship in the history of the organization.

The event is being held Saturday, Aug. 10 (Olympic Distance) and on Sunday, Aug. 11 (Sprint Distance), both from 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Coverage of the event will be streamed live online this weekend for free at usatriathlon.org
