Racine heating and cooling technology manufacturer Modine Manufacturing has donated a ventilation system to the YMCA in Mount Pleasant.
The donation is part of Modine’s campaign to raise money for area non-profits through the United Way in Racine. Modine’s 500 Racine employees raised more than $182,000 for United Way in 2011, which was matched by the company.
The ventilation system, called Atherion, is designed to maintain high efficiency and indoor air quality. It was introduced in 2011 and can use entirely outside air to provide energy savings.
“This is a tremendous opportunity for us to give back to the community we call home,” said Tom Burke, CEO at Modine. “Installing the Atherion will make sure everyone at the Mount Pleasant YMCA will be able to enjoy a comfortable building. The Atherion’s efficiency will also help the facility take a financial load off so they can focus on the vital services they provide our community.”
The 70,000-square-foot Mount Pleasant YMCA, named the Diversey Family Y, is scheduled to open in September.
Other nearby manufacturers have also contributed to the project.
Sturtevant-based Ruud Lighting is providing lights for the facility. Racine-based InSinkErator, a disposal and hot water dispenser manufacturer, donated $500,000 to the project. Racine agricultural and construction equipment maker Case-New Holland contributed $1 million for the new community and fitness center.
