General Mitchell International Airport on Thursday afternoon will unveil a new sculpture in its recently renovated baggage claim.
The public artwork, dubbed “Slalom,” will feature a sculpture floating above the baggage claim with movement and changing lights.
The artwork will make its debut during a 3:30 p.m. public ceremony.
General Mitchell International Airport recently completed a $45 million renovation project that overhauled the baggage claim area. The interior and exterior of the area were completely reconstructed with new features that include a glass canopy over the baggage claim roadway and a skylight along the entire length of the building. The project also outfitted the area with new baggage carousels, display signs, furniture and seating, flooring, carpeting, interior wall panels, and offices.
