Milwaukee company plans production of dog treats

Milwaukee-based Pup Pops LLC has launched a 60-day Kickstarter campaign to secure final funds for the manufacturing and launch of its Pup Pops dog food treats into the retail pet market.

Over the last six years, Pup Pops founder Sara Herr has worked with a team of two independent food scientists, the Association of American Feed Control Officials and individual state regulators to create the all-natural, low-fat, frozen treats for dogs of all sizes and breeds. Pup Pops is approved for sale once the final funds needed for manufacturing are in hand following the Kickstarter campaign.

“As an owner of a 4-year-old Rhodesian ridgeback, Rhoan, and a 2-year-old pocket pit bull, Sophie, I have a passion for my pets,” Herr said. “That’s why I’ve put so much of my own money, time and effort into perfecting the Pup Pops formulas, packaging and supplier list. Now it’s time to check the box on the final component – the manufacturing – so Pup Pops can hit store shelves this summer.”

While frozen dog treats are already on the market, Herr said Pup Pops’ formulas and easy-tear packaging set it apart. Pup Pops are water-based treats made with a mix of all-natural ingredients and dog-friendly herbs meant to help dogs rehydrate after long walks and hot days.

Following the campaign, Herr hopes to start manufacturing the “Bowl Lickin’ Chicken” flavor with ginger and turmeric and the “Belly Rubbin’ Berry” flavor with chamomile and lavender. After the launch of those two flavors, Pup Pops plans to introduce others, like the “Happy Barkin’ Beef” flavor with garlic, glucosamine and chondroitin to support healthy bones and joints.

The Kickstarter campaign runs through May 31.
