Milwaukee and Waukesha County would be hit hard by Gov. Scott Walker’s plan to eliminate recycling grants, a WisPolitics.com review shows.
The cut would equal $64.2 million, though documents detailing Walker’s two-year budget plan didn’t lay out the impact on specific communities.
Still, 1,025 local grants that were handed out in fiscal year 2010 give some guide on which communities would lose the most aid.
The City of Milwaukee received the largest grant in 2010 at more than $3.3 million, followed by Waukesha County at $1.35 million and Madison at $1.5 million. Outagamie County was next at $801,062, while Eau Claire received $710,802.
