The Village of Menomonee Falls recently purchased a 21.6-acre site at W140 N5998 Lilly Road in the village, where West Allis-based Advanced Waste Services Inc. wanted to move its ChemWorks industrial waste processing business from the west side of the City of Milwaukee.
Advanced Waste Services’ plans for the property became controversial in Menomonee Falls with several residents opposed. In August the plans were rejected by the village’s plan commission.
Earlier this year Advanced Waste filed a lawsuit against the village seeking $2 million in damages and saying that it obtained an occupancy permit for the site last year, but then was blocked by village officials when it tried to move forward with the project. Village ofificials said the company still needed to obtain additional approvals for the project.
After obtaining the occupancy permit, the company purchased the property in late September of 2013 for $1.7 million. Menomonee Falls recently purchased the property, a former concrete block manufacturing plant, for $2.8 million, according to state records.
The village plans to sell the property to Milwaukee-based Zilber Ltd. for an industrial space development.
“We have it under contract,” said Zilber Ltd. executive vice president John Kersey. “We’re still in the due diligence phase.”
