Meijer to expand Pleasant Prairie distribution center

Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Meijer Inc. plans to expand the 580,000-square-foot distribution center in Pleasant Praire that it acquired last year from Supervalu Inc.

Meijer plans to build a 253,677-square-foot addition on to the building, located on the east side of Highway 31 between state Highways 50 and 165, bringing its total size to 833,677 square feet. The Pleasant Prairie Plan Commission recently approved the preliminary plans for the expansion.

Meijer plans to have its operations at the facility up and running in the fall of 2014. The company plans to have 486 full time employees and 42 part time employees there.

Supervalu plans to end its operations at the facility in May, eliminating 117 jobs.
